Andrew to be stripped of last honorary military title at the Charles Windsor's request

ANDREW Mountbatten Windsor, at the King’s request, will be stripped of his last remaining honorary military title, a minister said today.

Defence Secretary John Healey said the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is “working to remove” the disgraced royal’s rank of vice-admiral, awarded to Andrew on his 55th birthday in 2015.

His other military titles were returned in 2022 over his connections with the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Mr Healey told BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg: “In general, the government’s been guided by the decisions and judgments the King has made.

“In defence, it’s exactly the same. And we’ve seen Andrew surrender the honorary positions he’s had throughout the military, and guided again by the King, we are working now to remove that last remaining title of vice-admiral that he has.”

The King stripped his brother of his peerages and the title of prince on Thursday amid the continuing fallout of the Epstein scandal, saying that he and the Queen’s “thoughts and utmost sympathies” are with “the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

The Sunday Times has reported that Andrew had routinely refused to sign off statements that supported survivors of abuse connected with Epstein.

The former prince, whose duke of York title has already been removed from the Roll of Peerages, denies sexually assaulting the late Virginia Giuffre.

She alleged this happened on three occasions, including when she was 17, after being trafficked by Epstein.

Mr Healey would not comment on whether Andrew would be able to keep his medals, including the campaign medal he received for his service in the Falklands war, but said the MoD would be “guided by the decisions the King makes.”

Andrew served as a helicopter pilot with the Royal Navy and was part of the task force deployed to retake the Falklands following the Argentinian invasion in 1982, ending his active naval career in 2001 with the rank of commander.

The MoD is reportedly examining whether Andrew would lose his naval rank completely.

Pressure is meanwhile building on Andrew to give evidence before the powerful US Congress’s house oversight committee, whose members have called for him to reveal what he knew about Epstein’s actions.
