Afghanistan reach first World Cup semi-final after tense win over Bangladesh
Afghanistan players celebrate the wicket of Bangladesh's Tanzid Hasan during the men's T20 World Cup cricket match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, June 24, 2024

AFGHANISTAN created history today after beating Bangladesh to seal a spot in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, eliminating Australia in the process.

Coached by former England batter Jonathan Trott, Afghanistan reached the last four of an ICC event for the first time after defeating Bangladesh by eight runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in a tense rain-affected Super 8 clash.

In doing so, they set up a semi-final tie against South Africa and sent 2021 champions Australia crashing out.
