TEACHERS at Llangors Church in Wales Primary School in Brecon have begun the first of a three-day strike over school management, working conditions and redundancy threats.

The school was hit by three days of strike action earlier this month, with teaching union NASUWT saying the school leadership and Powys County Council have not attempted to resolve the dispute.

NASUWT general secretary Dr Patrick Roach said: “It is extremely troubling that leaders at Llangors CiW Primary School and Powys County Council continue to ignore the urgent concerns of NASUWT members.”

Wales national officer Neil Butler said: “We are in a teacher recruitment and retention crisis and it is absurd to think that a skilled teacher at Llangors may soon be out of a job because the school was unable to manage its finances effectively.”

A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: “Council officers met the trade union on March 8 and again on April 12.

“Relevant officers will continue discussions with them on this matter as it progresses through formal processes.”
