Cortes: youth are the future and they’re with Momentum

TRANSPORT union TSSA should be proud of its relationship with Momentum and the contribution of its young members, delegates said yesterday.

TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes told delegates that its young members had played an instrumental role in getting Jeremy Corbyn elected Labour leader.

He said: “We should be proud that, within our union, we’ve got a bunch of dedicated young people who want to get active — not just in our party, but our union.

“Let’s support our youth, let’s support our future, let’s continue to support Momentum.”

Recently elected councillor Sarah-Jane Potter told delegates that she had won a seat on Stevenage Borough Council partly thanks to the help and support of Momentum.

She said: “As a first-time candidate, the support offered to me was much needed and much appreciated.

“Those of us who are Labour Party members are Labour Party members first. That a section of us unites under the banner of Momentum does not make us any less members of the party.”

Jhaenelle Miller, from Future TSSA branch, pointed out: “Momentum has politically awoken huge numbers of young people, and young people have been the driving force behind Momentum.”

Harry Gibb, from Yorkshire General branch, said: “For many new members, their first port of call over the CLP and over the union branch is Momentum, making them the face of the Labour Party and the labour movement, so how can we deny this as a route into our movement?"
