‘Significant’ risks to Tube passengers due to office staff covering operational roles, RMT warns
LONDON UNDERGROUND passengers face “unacceptable and significant” risks over the use of office staff to cover operational jobs with only two days of training, the RMT union has warned.
The union called on the city mayor Sadiq Khan today to immediately convene the London Underground Limited (LUL) Safety Forum following a passenger evacuation on Clapham Common Tube last year.
Reports by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and Formal Investigation identified a critical need for enhanced training for station and operational staff in the incident but LUL has increasingly relied on so-called “ambassador” office staff to cover operational jobs, said RMT.
