Well-staffed railways crucial to combating ‘disturbing’ surge in assaults, says RMT
A PUBLICLY funded, well-staffed railway is key to curbing rising assaults on rail workers, the RMT union said today.
An investigation by the BBC found the number of assaults on rail staff recorded by police was up by 10 per cent last year compared to 2019, despite an 11 per cent reduction in passenger numbers.
Rail workers reported being spat at, punched, and attacked, it found.
