Argentina: Missing activist Maldonado ‘may have drowned’

Fears are growing for missing rights campaigner Santiago Maldonado after the judge investigating his disappearance said he may have drowned.

Mr Maldonado was last seen being arrested at a demonstration for the indigenous rights of the Mapuche people on August 1, according to fellow protesters.

His disappearance has shocked the Argentinian left and thousands marched at the beginning of this month demanding the government reveal his whereabouts.
