MEN’S CRICKET: Middlesex seek to reignite their miserable Twenty20 campaign tomorrow afternoon when they take on 2022’s champions Hampshire. Currently sitting bottom of the Southern section with one win from eight games, Middlesex have the worst net run rate by a country mile. Three-time winners Leicester play Derby, who have never reached a final in the competition’s 22-year history, in the only Northern section game tommorrow evening.
MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Rico Simpson’s last-minute penalty earned New Zealand a 27-26 win over defending champions France at the Under 20s World Championships on Thursday. Hosts South Africa also lost, suffering a heavy 31-12 defeat to Argentina. England cruised past Fiji 48-11 to maintain their unbeaten start, Wales beat Spain 31-10, Ireland needed a late Finn Treacy try to edge Georgia 22-16 and Italy earned a shock 17-12 win over Australia.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Argentina needed penalties to beat Ecuador and reach the semi finals of the Copa America on Friday morning. After Lionel Messi had missed his spot kick Aston Villa goalie Emil Martinez saved twice to send the Argentinians through. Tomorrow’s last eight ties see the two lowest ranked teams left in the tournament clash when Venezuela take on Canada before Colombia meet Panama. Uruguay and Brazil round off the quarter finals on Sunday.
SPEEDWAY: Three-time world champion Emil Sayfutdinov bagged a maximum 18 points as Premiership table-toppers Ipswich came from behind to draw 45-45 at Oxford. Sayfutdinov also won the super heat to ensure Ipswich moved eight points clear in the league after second-placed Sheffield were thumped 55-37 at Leicester. King’s Lynn led from the first tape to crush bottom club Birmingham 57-33 in Thursday night’s other fixture.
