WOMEN’S CYCLING: Kim Le Court sprinted to win Sunday’s final stage at the Giro D’Italia, but it was Elisa Longho Borghini who claimed overall victory for the first time after leading the General Classification from start to finish.

Borghini finished 21 seconds ahead of Lotte Kopecky with Neve Bradbury a further 55 seconds back in third.

Clare Steels was Britain’s highest placed rider, almost 37 minutes behind in 26th place.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Champions League 1st qualifying round action resumes on Tuesday evening with The New Saints taking a 3-0 lead into their second leg tie at Montengro’s FC Decic and Shamrock Rovers all square at 0-0 with Iceland’s Vikingjur Reykjavik before their game in Dublin.

The Irish Premiership’s Larne will be looking to overturn a 3-0 deficit when they welcome Rigas FC to their Inver Park ground on Wednesday.

MEN’S CYCLING: Tadej Pogacar has extended his lead to three minutes and nine seconds over defending champion Jonas Vingegaard as the Tour de France heads into today’s 188kms flat stage 16 from Gruissan to Nimes.

Pogacar won stages 14 and 15 over the weekend to take his career tally to 14 Tour wins, moving above five-time tour winner Miguel Indurain but remaining a long way behind Mark Cavendish’s record-breaking total of 35.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Germany forward Thomas Mueller announced his retirement from international football today.

The Bayern Munich star’s decision comes in the wake of Germany’s defeat to eventual champions Spain in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

The 34-year-old won his first cap in 2010 and went on to make 131 appearances for his country, scoring 45 goals.
