ACTIVISTS staged a “sunbathers” protest in Westminster today warning the government against North Sea oil drilling projects.

Fossil Free London campaigners stretched out on beach towels in matching red swimsuits outside Parliament mocking the media’s positive portrayal of extreme heat as Britain faces its third heatwave this year.

Waving fans which read “Stop Rosebank” and holding a large banner with the words “No New Oil & Gas,” they demanded likely next PM Andy Burnham take a stance against Rosebank and Jackdaw North Sea oil fields.

Mr Burnham has yet to lay out his plans on the issue but previously said he was “open-minded.”

He has appointed former adviser for BP James Purnell as chief of staff.

Activist Robin Wells said: “Any politician who approves oil and gas in the midst of this climate crisis is signing on the dotted line for murder on a mass scale.”
