ISRAELI air attacks killed at least five people in Lebanon on Sunday and injured more than a dozen, according to the Health Ministry.

The latest killing spree by Israeli forces comes after Tel Aviv agreed to a “ceasefire” extension with Lebanon.

The attacks by the Israelis included the southern Lebanon municipalities of Tayr Felsay, Tayr Debba, Az-Zrariyah and Jebchit.

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported that at least three people were also killed during a separate Israeli attack on the village of Jouaiya.

The Israeli military also issued forced displacement orders to residents in the villages of Sohmor, Roumine, al-Qusaibah, Kfar Hounah and Naqqoura.

The Israelis have continued their campaign of clearing out the population and demolishing homes across several areas in the south in what it claims is the creation of a security buffer. Many experts have described this as ethnic cleansing, a crime against humanity.

At a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israel’s far-right Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was “holding territory, clearing territory and protecting Israel’s communities.”

Since the war with resistance group Hezbollah resumed on March 2, at least 2,988 people have been killed and 9,210 injured in Israeli attacks across the country, the Lebanese Health Ministry said on Sunday.

Sunday’s attacks followed talks in Washington, DC, where Lebanon and Israel agreed a 45-day ceasefire extension, even though the original accord which began on April 17 has never been observed.

Hezbollah, who are actually fighting the Israelis, are not included in the talks but, in any case, oppose direct negotiations with Israel.

Hezbollah legislator Hussein Hajj Hassan said on Sunday that direct talks with the Israelis “have led them down a dead-end path that will result in nothing but one concession after another.

“Neither they nor anyone else will be able to carry out what the enemy wants, especially when it comes to the issue of disarming the resistance.”
