Supreme Court sits in Glasgow
A view of George Square in Glasgow

BRITAIN’S Supreme Court is sitting in Glasgow for four days this week, in its first visit to Scotland’s largest city.

Court President Lord Reed is joined by Lord Stephens, Lady Rose, Lady Simler and Lord Doherty, as well as former deputy president Lord Hodge, at the Burgh Court, adjacent to the council headquarters at the City Chambers in George Square.

Members of the public are able to attend proceedings until Thursday on a first-come, first-served basis, as the court considers three appeals, including one involving a dispute between the owners and tenants of now closed city institution the Rogano restaurant.

Lord Reed, who studied law at Edinburgh University, said: “I am delighted that the Supreme Court will be sitting in Glasgow this week.

“I know the city well, having lived and worked there for many years when I was an advocate and a judge in the High Court.

“I am looking forward now to sitting in the City Chambers with my colleagues and engaging with school and university students.”
