Sophie Egbaran netted 22 goals as bottom of the table Birmingham gained their first points of the season with a narrow 48-47 win over the Dragons.
MEN’S BOXING: Richard Riakporhe stopped defending champion Jeamie Tshikeva in the fifth round of their British heavyweight title fight in London on Saturday evening. Riakporhe has lost only once, when challenging for the WBO cruiserweight title in 2024, in 21 bouts. On the same bill, Conor Benn beat Regis Prograis and headliner Tyson Fury, returning from his latest retirement, saw off Arslanbek Makhmudov, both by unanimous points decisions.
WHEELCHAIR RUGBY LEAGUE: Reigning champions Halifax Panthers, who completed the treble in 2025, kicked off the Super League season on Saturday afternoon by thumping new boys Bradford 99-18. Last year’s runners-up London Roosters cruised to a 70-30 win at Hull FC and Wigan eased past Sheffield 75-20. Leeds, who were denied a play-off spot last season due to player unavailability, romped to a massive 116-12 victory at the Edinburgh Giants.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Gateshead sealed their escape from National League relegation with Saturday’s 1-0 win at Aldershot. They were bottom of the league, 11 points from safety, before losing only two of their last 15 games. Morecambe’s second consecutive relegation was confirmed when they slumped to a 5-1 defeat at Woking. York remain two points clear at the top after they won 1-0 in Tamworth and second-placed Rochdale beat Wealdstone 2-1.
