HANNAH SPENCER’S victory in the Gorton and Denton by-election shows a vote for the Scottish Greens can stop Reform at this year’s Holyrood elections, the party claimed today.
Scottish Greens co-leader Gillian MacKay MSP made the remarks in the wake of a resounding result for the Green Party of England and Wales, which saw it not only beat Reform but garner almost 60 per cent more votes than Labour, driving it into third in what had been its sixth safest seat in the country.
Arguing the result “shows people are ready for something different,” she said: “Hannah has just shown Scotland that the best way to keep Reform out is by voting Green.
“As Reform tries to exploit frustration and sow division, Labour are retreating from the bold action that people need.
“This result shows there is a growing appetite for hopeful, progressive politics that puts people and the planet first.
“As we approach the Holyrood election in May, people across Scotland will be looking for representatives who will stand up for fairness, tackle inequality and deliver the climate action that our communities deserve.”
