MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Hull KR won the World Club Challenge at Craven Park on Thursday night after holding on to beat Australian champions Brisbane Broncos 30-24. Hull led 30-4 heading into the last 20 minutes before the Broncos ran in four tries. English clubs have won the last three challenges, all on their own grounds, following St Helens and Wigan both claiming narrow victories over Penrith. The competition was not held last year.
CRICKET: The T20 World Cup Super Eights begin in Colombo tomorrow with New Zealand playing Pakistan in a Group Two fixture. England face co-hosts Sri Lanka tomorrow morning in the other Group Two game. All four teams who won the qualifying groups, India, South Africa, Zimbabwe and the West Indies, are in Group One, which starts with defending champions India up against South Africa on Sunday afternoon in Ahmedabad.
DARTS: Jonny Clayton beat Gian van Veen 6-2 to win Thursday night’s Premier League of Darts tournament in Glasgow. Clayton thumped world champion Luke Littler 6-1 in the semi-finals and brushed aside Gerwyn Price 6-3 in his opener. He now tops the table after the third round of the competition with pointless Josh Rock and Stephen Bunting remaining joint bottom. Michael van Gerwen pulled out of the event due to illness.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Ivan Toney missed a first-half penalty but still bagged another hat-trick as Al-Ahli came from behind to beat bottom of the table Al-Najma 4-1 in the Saudi Professional League on Thursday evening. Al-Ahli moved joint-top with Al-Hilal but have played a game more. Toney in now the league’s clear top scorer with 23 goals, five more than both Cristiano Ronaldo and Mexican international Julian Quinones.
