Glentoran edged out Ballymena 2-1, Linfield won 3-0 at rock bottom Glenavon, Crusaders drew 2-2 with Bangor and Dungannon needed a last-minute Adam Glenny penalty to come from behind and beat Cliftonville 3-2.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Harry Kane netted twice in Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win at struggling Werder Bremen on Saturday to become the first Englishman to score 500 goals in professional football. His total, which includes 100 penalties, has been reached in just 743 club and international appearances. Bayern continue to enjoy a six-point lead in the German Bundesliga from Borussia Dortmund who cruised to a 4-0 win over Mainz.
MEN’S BOXING: Kosovo’s Labinot Xhoxhaj successfully defended his European heavyweight boxing belt for the second time after stopping Sweden’s Pezhman Seifkhani in the fourth round of Saturday night’s title contest in Germany. Xhoxhaj improved his record to 22 wins from 23 fights while Seifkhani suffered a second defeat in 19 bouts. Joe Joyce was the last British boxer to hold the European title after he beat Daniel Dubois in 2020.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Defending champions The New Saints moved twelve points clear in the Cymru Premier after they won 2-0 in Colwyn Bay and second-placed Connah’s Quay were held 0-0 by Penybont. At the other end of the table bottom club Llanelli earned their first point in eight games with a 1-1 draw at Cardiff Met, Haverfordwest beat Bala 3-0, Caernarfon lost 2-0 at home to Barry Town and Flint Town drew 0-0 with Briton Ferry Llansawel.
