Beth Winter announces that she is standing as an independent in the upcoming Senedd elections
Beth Winter, May 15, 2023

BETH WINTER has announced that she is standing as an independent in the upcoming Senedd elections.

The former socialist MP for Cynon Valley resigned from Labour in 2024 over its backing for the “neoliberal status quo” before becoming a key organiser of Your Party in Wales.

In campaign materials, she said that she is standing as a “Community Independent” candidate for Portypridd, Cynon and Merthyr.

She vowed to only take a salary equal to her previous trade union employment, with the rest going to back to the community, and to “not be beholden to any party.”

“Real change comes from community power — and that is what I would take to the Senedd,” she added.

Following public infighting between Your Party’s then co-leaders, Ms Winter announced last November that she and former PCS leader Mark Serwotka had registered a new political party, People’s Party Wales, with her as the leader, but the party has not taken shape.
