EUROPEAN UNION: The bloc is drafting a list of concessions that it believes Russia must make to secure any long-term peace in Ukraine, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said today.

The EU is convinced that Russia is not negotiating seriously, and it doubts that European and Ukrainian interests are being represented by US President Donald Trump’s administration, so work has begun on “a sustainable peace plan” that might force Moscow’s hand.

MEXICO: Mexico State, the country’s most populous, said on Monday that it was stepping up health screening at schools and recommended the use of face masks for students and staff as the country confronts a growing measles outbreak.

By last Friday, there were 2,143 confirmed measles cases nationwide.

UNITED NATIONS: The world body is waiting to find out how much the Trump administration intends to pay of the nearly $4 billion (around £3bn) that the United States owes to the UN and when the money will arrive.

Washington owes $2.196bn (£1.5bn) to the world body’s regular operating budget, including $767 million (£573m) for this year, according to a UN official.

The US also owes $1.8bn (£1.3bn) for peacekeeping operations.

COLOMBIA: The Attorney General’s Office vowed on Monday to file corruption charges against the president of national oil company Ecopetrol relating to his days as a campaign manager for President Gustavo Petro.

Ricardo Roa managed the finances of Mr Petro’s 2022 presidential campaign and prosecutors say they have enough evidence to prove that he helped the campaign to illegally exceed spending limits.
