Welsh first minister refuses to say if Starmer is doing a good job
First Minister of Wales Eluned Morgan delivers a speech during the Wales Investment Summit at the International Convention Centre Wales in Newport, December 1, 2025

WALES’S first minister today refused to give her support to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Eluned Morgan repeatedly refused to say if she thought Sir Keir was good at his job interviewed by the Radio 4’s Today programme.

The Welsh Labour leader said: “What I’m saying to the people of Wales is that he’s not on the ballot paper. That is not what people will be voting for in May.”

She added that this is not a time for protest votes and that the Senedd elections will present “a choice between the chaos Reform will offer, [or] the pipe dreams that Plaid will offer, which will be a road to independence.”

Last week she said that Sir Keir was only welcome to campaign with her in Wales if he brought “goodies.”

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood ruled out her request for the government to take control of policing in Wales on Monday.
