Sport in brief: January 23, 2026

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Fan-owned Clydebank lead the Lowland League by a point before hosting Cumbernauld Colts on Saturday afternoon while second-placed Bonnyrigg Rose, last season’s relegated team from League Two, look to extend their eleven match winning run when they visit north Edinburgh-based Civil Service Strollers. Bottom of the table East Stirlingshire take on Cowdenbeath, the last team they beat way back at the beginning of October.

HORSE RACING: Aisling Oscar, trained by North Yorkshire-based Adrian Keatley, earned its seventh consecutive win in 56 days when it held off Goldmoyne to take last race at Newcastle on Thursday evening. All seven successes have come in handicaps between 7 furlongs and a mile at the Gosforth Park course since the five year old switched trainers in October. Thursday’s win was also in-form Keatley’s seventh in a row from four different horses.

AMERICAN FOOTBALL: Both Super Bowl 60 play-off semi finals kick off on Sunday evening with Denver hosting six-time winners New England and the LA Rams at Seattle. Denver are due to replace injured quarter back Bo Nix, who broke an ankle last weekend, with Jarrett Stidham, who hasn’t started a game in the competition for over two years. First choice running back JK Dobbins returns to the Denver squad for the first time since November.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Table-topping Cape Town Stormers will protect the United Rugby Championship’s only hundred per cent record when they take on struggling Durban on Saturday evening. Their nearest challengers Glasgow are at second-bottom Zebre and the league’s highest scorers, third-placed Ulster are in Llanelli to face bottom of the pile Scarlets. Cardiff meet Treviso and Connacht are up against Leinster in Saturday’s other fixtures.
