AMERICAN FOOTBALL: Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin resigned hours after his team had been thumped 30-6 at Houston in Tuesday morning’s NFL play-off match. 

Tomlin had been the competition’s longest serving head coach, managing the Steelers for 19 years during which they never suffered a losing season, reached the play-offs 13 times, claimed eight divisional titles and won the Super Bowl in 2009.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Kidderminster stuffed Morecambe 6-2 on Tuesday night to set up an FA Trophy fifth round tie at Halifax, who brushed aside Anstey Nomads 4-0.

Southport’s 2-0 win at Eastleigh earned them a short trip to Fylde in the last sixteen, while Southend will travel to Chatham after their 3-1 win at Bath. 

Tamworth knocked out Rochdale on penalties to next host Marine and Scunthorpe will face Horsham after seeing off Clitheroe 3-1.

MEN’S CRICKET: The Under-19s 50 over World Cup gets underway Thursday morning with 2024’s runners-up India facing the United States, Scotland up against joint-hosts Zimbabwe, and Tanzania taking on the West Indies. 

Australia begin the defence of their title against Ireland in Windhoek on Friday when England meet Pakistan, and Afghanistan play South Africa. 

The sixteen participating countries will initially play in four qualifying groups.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Defending champions The New Saints moved six points clear in the Cymru Premier after they edged past Colwyn Bay 1-0 and second placed Connah’s Quay were held 2-2 at Caernarfon. 

Bottom club Llanelli are now 15 points from safety after going down 5-1 at Barry Town, Penybont drew 1-1 with Cardiff Met, Bala romped to a 4-0 win at Flint in the relegation dog-fight and Llansawel Briton Ferry won 3-2 in Haverfordwest.
