Home Office TikTok deportation videos turn 'brutality into click-bait online entertainment'

HOME OFFICE social media videos of deportations and immigration arrests have turned raids into “click-bait online entertainment,” refugee charity Freedom From Torture has said.

Secure Borders UK was set up on TikTok today, with the slogan: “Restoring order and control to our borders.”

Its first 20-second video shows handcuffed people being escorted onto planes and raids being carried out to arrest illegal workers. The clip ends with the words: “And it’s just getting started.”

Freedom From Torture’s Sile Reynolds commented: “This government is clearly hooked on the cheap political points it can score by turning the brutality of enforcement raids into click-bait online entertainment.

“This style of political communication provokes the kind of anxiety and fear that fuelled the summer riots and the recent violence directed at asylum hotels.”

The charity branded the video “more populist, dehumanising social media content designed to distract and divide us.”

The Refugee Council warned that there was “little evidence” of such messages working.
