MEN’S FOOTBALL: Raphinha scored twice as Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-2 to win the Spanish Super Cup at Jeddah’s King Abdullah stadium on Sunday evening in front of a 60,000 crowd. Barcelona have won the cup 16 times, three more than Real Madrid, since the competition was reconstituted in 1982. The Catalans are on a 10-game winning run in all competitions and sit four points clear of Madrid at the top of La Liga. 

ICE HOCKEY: Defending champions Belfast moved within three points of Elite League table-toppers Nottingham Panthers after seeing off Manchester 4-1 and easing past the Panthers by the same score. Nottingham hit back with a 7-3 win over bottom of the table Fife while third-placed Cardiff lost 2-1 in Manchester before edging out Glasgow 1-0. Sheffield slipped into fourth after defeats at Fife and Glasgow before thumping Dundee 6-0.

AMERICAN FOOTBALL: Houston take on Texas tomorrow morning in the last of the NFL’s play-offs after an extended weekend of closely fought matches. Chicago came from 21-3 down to beat Green Bay 31-27, Buffalo edged to a 27-24 victory at Jacksonville, the LA Rams squeezed past Carolina 34-31 and San Francisco 49ers beat defending champions Philadelphia 23-19. In the early hours of Monday New England saw off Los Angeles Chargers 16-3.

WOMEN’S CRICKET: England all-rounder Alice Capsey has joined Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred next summer. Capsey is a two-time Hundred winner at MI London, known formerly as Oval Invincibles, and has become a mainstay of the England side since making her debut in 2022. The 21-year-old has scored more than 1,200 international runs across T20 and one-day international formats, while also contributing regularly with the ball and taking over 20 wickets.
