MEN’S FOOTBALL: The upcoming Africa Cup of Nations will be broadcast live on Channel 4. It will be the first time the full tournament will be available to watch on free-to-air television in Britain.
The competition gets started on December 21 when hosts Morocco take on Comoros.
Pete Andrews, head of sport for Channel 4, said: “So many Premier League stars will be playing in the tournament and having Liverpool legend Mo Salah on Channel 4 on Boxing Day, when traditional Premier League football coverage has been reduced elsewhere, means football fans will still be able to get their thrill of festive fixtures.”
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Germany have been picked as hosts of the Women’s Euro 2029 ahead of other bids from the Polish FA and a joint bid from Denmark and Sweden, Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin announced at a ceremony today.
Germany last hosted the Women’s Euros in 2001 and the 2029 edition will be contested by 16 teams at eight venues across the country.
England are the reigning champions, having won the tournament in 2022 before successfully defending their title earlier this year in Switzerland.
MEN’S BOXING: Terence Crawford has been stripped of the WBC portion of his world super-middleweight title over his alleged refusal to pay sanctioning fees.
Crawford jumped up three divisions to stun Canelo Alvarez in September and win the unified title, earning a reported $50 million(£37.6m) in the process. But the WBC said it had no choice but to strip the champion over his camp’s persistent refusal to acknowledge an outstanding debt of around $300,000 (£225,600).
The WBC has mandated Britain’s Hamzah Sheeraz to fight Canada’s Christian Mbilli for the vacant title.
