MEN’S FOOTBALL: A stoppage time own goal from Qatar’s Sultan Al-Brake handed Palestine a 1-0 win in their opening game at the Fifa Arab Cup tournament, watched by a 70,000 capacity crowd at the Al-Bayt stadium. 

Monday’s other match saw Tunisia suffer a shock 1-0 defeat against a Libyan team that are ranked 71 places below them. 

Wednesday’s fixtures see Algeria play Sudan, Iraq meet Bahrain and Jordan take on the UAE. 

 

MEN’S CYCLING: Next year’s Giro d’Italia will follow its opening three stages in Bulgaria with seven summit finishes and a day in Switzerland before Rome’s traditional finale brings almost 3,500km of racing to a close. 

There is only one individual time-trial covering a 40km route from Viareggio to Massa in northern Tuscany. In its third week, the race will pass through the region devastated by the Friuli earthquake in 1976.

 

AMERICAN FOOTBALL: Bo Nix passed for 321 yards and one touchdown as Denver Broncos needed overtime to squeeze past struggling Washington 27-26 on Monday night to maintain their nine-match winning run and top the American Conference with New England. 

Chicago Bears head the National Conference following their 24-15 win at defending champions Philadelphia after the LA Rams stumbled to a 31-28 defeat at Carolina Panthers. 

 

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Jamie Vardy made it four goals in nine appearances after scoring twice for Cremonese in Monday night’s surprise 3-1 win at Bologna in Serie A. 

Bologna began the game on a 12-match unbeaten run that had propelled them into the top six, while Cremonese had lost their last three games. 

Milan top the table on goal difference from Napoli with Inter a point back in third.
