WORKERS at Vue Cinema in Glasgow’s St Enoch Centre have overwhelmingly backed strike action in a dispute over low pay and short contracts.

The Unite members at the site, which the entertainment multinational argues is among the most profitable across its 92 sites Britain and Ireland, have long argued that the minimum wage and four-hour contracts fail to provide them with an income that is either sufficient or secure.

Now those workers have voted 100 per cent in favour of strike on an 80 per cent turnout, a result branded a “decisive mandate” by Unite Hospitality’s Glasgow branch strike committee.

It added: “We have proven at every step that the spirit of collective action only grows stronger among our workplace, and we only hope that spreads to our city and our industry at large.

“This ballot result should encourage Vue to examine its own poor treatment of its staff, and to treat us with the respect as a negotiating partner that we deserve.”
