By refusing to recognise a Palestinian state and continuing to supply Israel with weapons, Meloni has provoked an uprising that is without precedent in the history of solidarity with Palestine — and it could change Italy profoundly too, writes RAMZY BAROUD
Morning Star campaigns manager CALVIN TUCKER encourages readers to get behind our five-year plan to keep the Star shining brightly as the paper approaches its 100th anniversary

GOOD morning, comrades, and welcome to the first of a new fortnightly column reporting on the donations, events and activities powering our 95th Anniversary Appeal.
I often call the Morning Star the “Daily Miracle.” But the truth is, there’s no magic trick — just the dedication of our readers. For nearly a century, you’ve been buying, selling and supporting the paper since that first edition of the Daily Worker rolled off the presses on January 1 1930.
What makes us different from the rest of the press is simple: we don’t answer to billionaire oligarchs, trust funds, or corporate advertisers. We’re owned by our readers. And we’re unashamedly on the side of workers, not bosses. That independence matters.
As editor Ben Chacko reminded a packed fringe meeting at Labour conference last week, the Morning Star is the one organisation on the left that can unite union leaders, left parties and campaigners and activists to chart a way forward. We cannot be bribed, bullied or blackmailed into parroting the Establishment line on workers’ rights, foreign wars or genocide. But independence comes at a price.
Without your generosity, we’d have folded long ago. And now we face new challenges: building a sustainable digital future, monetising our website and online edition while keeping access open, reaching younger readers and expanding into video and podcasts.
We’ve drawn up a five-year plan to take us to our centenary in 2030. It’s ambitious, but essential if we’re to cement our role as the media hub of the left. And it will require serious investment. That’s why this appeal aims to raise £95,000.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be mobilising trade unionists, activists, and our 40-plus readers and supporters groups to hit that target. If you’re planning fundraising events, stalls, collections or other activities, email me at campaigns@peoples-press.com and I’ll feature them here so we can inspire each other.
In the meantime, if you believe the Morning Star is a vital counterweight to the daily avalanche of right-wing propaganda, don’t wait. Help us reach our 100th birthday. Donate today and keep the Daily Miracle alive for the next generation.
