
EGYPT: Police reported they had killed two suspected militants in a shootout today, during a raid on their hideout in Cairo’s twin city of Giza.
The Interior Ministry said the pair belonged to the Hasm movement, which is affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.
A bystander was killed and an officer wounded in the exchange of fire between the militants and security forces in Giza’s Bolaq el-Dakrour neighbourhood, the ministry said in a statement.
SOUTH KOREA: Torrential rains that slammed South Korea for five days have left 14 people dead and 12 others missing, the government said today.
One person was killed on Sunday after their house collapsed during heavy rain and another was found dead after being swept by a swollen stream in Gapyeong, north east of Seoul, the Interior and Safety Ministry said.
The ministry said eight people were discovered dead and six others were reported missing in the southern town of Sancheong on Saturday.
VIETNAM: A boat carrying tourists capsized during a sudden thunderstorm in Vietnam on Saturday afternoon, killing 37 people, state media reported. Five others remain missing.
The Wonder Sea boat was carrying 48 passengers and five crew members on a tour of Ha Long Bay.
FRANCE: Dozens of masked rioters wielding metal bars, mortars and Molotov cocktails attacked cars on a busy road and clashed with police on Saturday in the central French city of Limoges, according to officials.
The clashes, with what the authorities described as “organised gangs,” left nine officers wounded.
France’s interior ministry announced on Saturday plans to deploy a special security force to the city.
