Communists slam Starmer government as ‘anti-worker, warmongering cabal’
Prime Minister Keir Starmer speaking to members of the media as he arrives at the Nato Summit at the Hague, Netherlands, June 25, 2025

BRITAIN’S communists condemned Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour government as “an anti-working class, warmongering cabal hell-bent on militarising our economy and society.”

Addressing the party’s political committee on Tuesday evening, Liz Payne condemned the government’s prioritisation of military spending while millions face deepening poverty and insecurity.

Ms Payne, a leading member of the World Peace Council, criticised Sir Keir for backing what she called an “illegal, unprovoked US attack on Iran” and accused him of complicity in “Israeli genocide in Palestine.”

She denounced his pledge to raise Britain’s military spending to 5 per cent of GDP, claiming it won applause from figures including US President Donald Trump, Nato’s Mark Rutte and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

She accused Labour of abandoning even the limited social protections that once distinguished it from the Conservatives, and instead advancing a foreign policy rooted in support for US and British imperialism.

“Now we have a so-called Labour government that uses its freakish parliamentary majority — the result of our anti-democratic electoral system — to rob the disabled at home and the poorest people in the Third World,” she said.

“And why? To enrich the military-industrial complex and protect big business interests around the world.”

Calling for a sharp reversal of Britain’s foreign policy posture, Ms Payne demanded the country’s withdrawal from Nato, the removal of US military bases from British soil and the closure of bases in Cyprus and Diego Garcia.

She also condemned any military threats directed at China over Taiwan, warning against Britain’s involvement in future US-led interventions.
