Three cheers for communism at Marx Oration at Highgate Cemetery
The 2025 Marx Oration

CROWDS at Karl Marx’s Highgate Cemetery tomb gave three cheers for communism today following the 2025 Marx Oration.

The event, which traces its history back to Friedrich Engels’s address by the graveside of his friend, takes place each year on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of Marx’s death on March 14.

Cuban ambassador Ismara Vargas Walter told those gathered that “Marxism is not a dogma, it is a tool for critical thinking … and for liberation.
