FA to investigate Blatter’s claim 2018 vote was fixed
Suspended Fifa boss says Russia were promised World Cup
Greg Dyke told MPs yesterday that the Football Association will look into suspended Fifa president Sepp Blatter’s staggering revelation that there was an agreement in place for Russia to host the 2018 World Cup before a single vote was cast.
Blatter told Russian news agency Tass that in 2010 a decision was made to award Russia the 2018 tournament and the US the 2022 World Cup — before dodgy Uefa boss Michel Platini backed Qatar.
The announcement caused outrage in the FA who splashed £21 million on England’s failed bid — including £2.5m of public money from local authorities.
