Liverpool exodus to Belles continues with Dowie
NEWLY promoted Doncaster Rover Belles signed Liverpool’s Natasha Dowie yesterday, making her the third Red to join Glen Harris’s side in the space of a week.

Dowie, who bagged one goal for Melbourne Victory since joining them on loan in November, will line up alongside former Liverpool players Becky Easton and Katrin Omarsdottir when the Women’s Super League restarts in the spring.

And Dowie hopes she can add to her 2010 FA Cup winners medal with her new side.

“I’m at a stage in my career where I have won a lot of things and I see Doncaster as an exciting, up and coming team with a great set up,” said Dowie.

“I know a lot of the players and think they, as well as the staff, are great characters on and off the pitch. The offer I was given ticked all of the boxes.

“I want to win silverware. I’m a winner full stop. I’ve come to Doncaster to win things or to at least challenge until the end.

“I want to bring lots of goals to the club this season. I’m a hard-worker who never gives up so I hope this will be appreciated by the players and fans.”

Dowie took to social media to promise her new fans that she will give 100 per cent to the club, with the 27-year-old ready for the challenge ahead.

“I’m very excited by the challenge at Doncaster Belles,” she said on Twitter. “Can’t wait to start work with this group of players and staff.

“The club showed great commitment to put pen to paper and I promise to give everything to repay them on the pitch.”

Harris is pleased that Doncaster beat out a number of teams to Dowie’s signature and that her ability to score important goals — she scored the only goal in the 2010 final as Everton beat Arsenal 1-0 — will be key to the Belles doing well this season.

“She is a winner and with her ability and desire to succeed, her arrival at the club is a significant statement of intent,” he said.

“This was a considered decision from Tash. We know several clubs were keen to secure her signature but we are pleased she has committed to Belles — which again, with another quality signing, sends out a strong message.”
