KENYAN police killed three protesters as yesterday’s rerun of August’s annulled election proceeded despite an opposition boycott.
Rioting broke out in opposition areas as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission pressed on with a presidential election that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga said was not credible.
Three people were killed in protests, an anonymous police source said: one in the opposition stronghold of Kisumu county, another in Homa Bay in the west and the third in Athi River town outside the capital Nairobi.
Anyone who criticises those in power in Kenya risks their freedom or worse. The brutal abduction of Booker Omole marks a new escalation in a country sliding toward authoritarian rule, says MARC VANDEPITTE
