Pakistan summons US ambassador over Trump Taliban tweet

PAKISTAN’S government angrily summoned Washington’s ambassador yesterday over US President Donald Trump’s accusation that it had given sanctuary to the Afghan Taliban.

The row erupted after Mr Trump tweeted on New Year’s Day that the US had “foolishly given Pakistan more than $33 billion (£24bn) in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools.

“They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more,” he said.
