HUNDREDS of people are expected to protest outside the University of London’s Senate House today over its use of outsourced workers.

The Independent Workers of Great Britain (IWGB) campaign is demanding that around 250 workers are brought in-house.

They include cleaners, security officers, receptionists, porters and catering and post room staff.

Security officers and receptionists will be on strike with a picket from 2pm, while cleaners, porters, catering and post room staff are expected to join the protest from 6pm.

It coincides with Britain’s biggest postgraduate fair, which is taking place at Senate House on the day.

Other demands include an end to zero-hours contracts at the university and pay rises.

IWGB rep Margarita Cunalata said: “I've been working for six years as a cleaner at the University of London and still they treat me as a second-class worker, with far worse terms and conditions than staff directly employed by the university.

“I’m going to keep on fighting until all of us outsourced workers get a fair deal and are brought in-house.”

A protest and strike over outsourcing at Senate House last November attracted around 500 people.
