Richard Burgon calls for MoJ cleaners to be paid fairly

SHADOW justice secretary Richard Burgon called on the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) yesterday to pay its cleaners the London living wage.

United Voices of the World (UVW) members working as cleaners at the MoJ — as well as at the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and several Health Care America sites — will walk out on strike on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday over pay and unfair working conditions.

Mr Burgon wrote to his opposite number David Gauke to complain that cleaners at MoJ headquarters were paid “the lowest possible legal wage of £7.83 an hour.”
