Waorani tribe awaits court's decision over Ecuadorian government's plan sell their land
"Today we expect an independent sentence, a duly substantiated sentence, the court must understand that what is at stake here is Life"

SUPPORT for Waorani people in their legal battle against the Ecuadorian government has poured in from environmental and global justice organisations as a court was set to deliver its verdict over the selling of their land today.

On April 11, members of the Waorani tribe took President Lenin Moreno’s increasingly reactionary government to court, alleging they were lied to regarding the earmarking of their land for oil extraction companies.

The tribe contends that a 2012 consultation between them and the government failed to mention any of the negative repercussions caused by fossil fuel extraction from their land.
