Iranian police call death of woman in custody an ‘unfortunate incident’

TEHRAN’S police chief said today that the death of a woman in custody was an “unfortunate” incident.

Mahsa Amini died on Friday, three days after morality police held her for allegedly breaking hijab rules.

The death of Ms Amini, an ethnic Kurd from the city of Saqez in Kurdistan province, sparked protests in the capital and in western Iran.
