THREE successive victories had signalled an upturn in form for Chelsea’s supporters, but for all the talk of a resurgence, yesterday’s draw suggests there’s quite a bit more work needed from manager Graham Potter as he looks to craft a side capable of once again challenging the league’s top clubs.

The victory was in their grasp but was snatched away when young forward Ellis Simms, coming off the bench, fired in the equalising goal with a minute of the match remaining to earn Everton a deserved point.

After a disastrous start to the season, Sean Dyche’s side continue to lift themselves away from the relegation zone.

After a first half dominated by the hosts, the excellent Joao Felix, who had delighted the crowd with his assortment of flicks and spins, put Chelsea ahead shortly after the interval.

The dynamic Felix, on loan from Atletico Madrid, was at the centre of much of Chelsea’s forward play. Everton’s players at times offered little resistance to the pressure exerted by their opponents.

Will the move will become permanent? Many supporters would no doubt back the club if they did look to sign the young Portuguese player.

As the second half wore on, Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure equalised before Kai Havertz put Chelsea back into the lead. With time fast running out, Dyche brought on Simms: the 22-year-old collected a pass outside the penalty area, impressively squirming beyond his marker before placing the ball under goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for his first Everton goal.
