HUNGARY’S parliament passed legislation taking “revenge”on teachers today, following months of protests and strikes by education workers and students.

The law revokes teachers’ status as public employees, increases their maximum weekly working hours and allows them to be transferred to other schools where there are staff shortages.

Students, teachers and their supporters gathered outside the parliament building in Budapest as the vote took place.
