Japan’s military supervisors covered up harassment cases, investigation finds

JAPAN’S military supervisors were involved in widespread cover-ups and were reluctant to deal with complaints of abuse, the Defence Ministry admitted today.

A probe was commissioned by the ministry after a former soldier brought a high-profile sexual assault case.

The investigating panel found that about 80 per cent of the reported cases involved abuse of power and that sexual harassment accounted for about 12 per cent.
