Teaching unions criticise government's guidance on trans pupils
TEACHING unions criticised the government today for rushing out guidance on trans pupils just before Christmas while leaving many questions unanswered.
The Department for Education’s (DfE) long-awaited draft guidance for schools and colleges said teachers and pupils in England will not be compelled to use a child’s preferred pronouns.
The non-statutory guidance, which has been delayed from the summer, adds that parents “should not be excluded” from decisions taken by a school or college relating to requests for a child to “socially transition” such as wishes to change names, pronouns and clothing.
