MEN’S FOOTBALL: Ollie Pearce scored twice as York beat Hartlepool 5-3 to remain a point clear in the National League as second-placed Forest Green also enjoyed a 4-1 win at Maidenhead.

The league’s leading scorers Barnet mis-fired in a 0-0 draw with Oldham but remain third.

Bottom club Ebbsfleet drew 1-1 at Tamworth and fellow strugglers Boston also gained a point from their 1-1 draw with Dagenham and Redbridge.

WOMEN’S TENNIS: Coco Gauff was two points from defeat before coming back to beat Zheng Qinwen 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) and claim the WTA finals tournament in Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening.

Gauff’s recent run of good form included beating the world number one and two, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek on the way to the final.

Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski won the doubles title after defeating Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova.

MEN’S CRICKET: Afghanistan face Bangladesh in the deciding leg of their three match one-day series at the UAE’s Sharjah Stadium tomorrow.

Bangladesh bounced back from losing the first game by 92 runs to land a 68 run win on Saturday with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto hitting 76 in their 252-7 to take the man of the match award.

The win moved Bangladesh above Afghanistan to eighth in the world rankings.

BOXING: Jesse Rodriguez defended his WBC super-flyweight title after knocking out former world champion Pedro Guevera in the third round of Saturday night’s bout in Philadelphia.

Rodriguez, boxing’s youngest world champion, has won multiple title belts in two weight classes and improved his record to 21 unbeaten bouts, 14 by knockout.

On the same bill IBF welterweight champion Jaren Ennis won a unanimous points decision over Karen Chukhadzhian.
