WOMEN’S TENNIS: Two-time Grand Slam champion Aryna Sabalenka, who was forced to miss the Wimbledon Championships due to a shoulder injury, beat Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-5 in the final of the Cincinnati Open late on Monday evening. Sabalenka did not lose a set throughout the tournament that included a semi final win over world number one Iga Swiatek and has now replaced Coco Gauff at second in the world rankings.

MEN’S CRICKET: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan, who also served as a member of parliament for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party, is set to play in the first test of their two match series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi tomorrow morning. Al-Hasan, who is currently ranked as the world’s third best test cricket all-rounder, was playing in Canada when Hasina resigned and fled the country two weeks ago.

SPEEDWAY: Josh Pickering scored a staggering 18+2 points as Sheffield Tigers came from eights points down to earn a massive 52-38 win at Ipswich in their top of the table clash on Monday night. The Tigers are now four points clear of Leicester in the Premiership after they leap-frogged Ipswich with a thumping 53-37 victory over Oxford. Bottom club Birmingham lost again, going down 46-43 at home to King’s Lynn.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Brazil’s Penarol take a 4-0 lead into tomorrow evening’s second leg of their Copa Libertadores last 16 match against La Paz-based The Strongest. Tomorrow also sees Chile’s Colo Colo defending a 1-0 buffer over Colombia’s Junior and Brazil’s Athletico Miniero all square at 1-1 with San Salvador from Buenos Aires. Argentina’s River Plate, who qualified for the knock-out rounds with the best record, meet compatriots Talleres tomorrow.
