MEN’S CYCLING: Olympic mountain bike gold medallist Tom Pidcock has been named as part of Britain’s squad for next week’s World Championship road race in Zurich.

He’ll be joined by Tour of Britain winner Stephen Williams, runner-up Oscar Onley, Adam and Simon Yates, James Knox, Jake Stewart and Mark Donovan.

Josh Tarling will be looking to improve on last year’s third place when he competes in Sunday’s time trial.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Wigan need a win from Thursday night’s match against near-neighbours Salford to seal the Super League Leaders Shield and head into the end of season play-offs in pole position.

Salford have already secured their spot in the play-offs, but tomorrow night’s other Super League fixture sees two teams with their eyes on the other end of the table clash as Castleford visit Huddersfield.

Second-placed Hull KR host Leeds on Friday evening.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Chile’s Colo Colo drew 1-1 with Argentina’s River Plate this morning in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores quarter-final.

Five Brazilian clubs are also through to the last eight with Rio de Janeiro’s defending champions Fluminense taking on compatriots Atletico Mineiro and Botafago, who boast the tournament’s leading scorer Junior Santos, facing Sao Paulo before Flamengo are up against Uruguay’s Penarol tomorrow night.

MEN’S CRICKET: Harry Brook captains England for the first time on Thursday when they begin their five match one-day series against Australia at Trent Bridge.

The English have called up pace bowler Saqib Mahmood for his first one-day international in almost 18 months after he made his international comeback from injury in last week’s Twenty20 series.

Australia are second behind India in the 50 over rankings, five places ahead of England.
