At least seven Palestinians killed by Israeli air attacks in central Gaza
Palestinians mourn over victims during their funeral after an Israeli bombardment over night, in Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, December 9, 2024

AT LEAST seven Palestinians were killed today by an Israeli air strike on a house in central Gaza’s Nuseirat camp, according to the Palestinian Civil Defence.

Many more have been left wounded by the deadly attack.

The Anadolu news agency quoted medical sources at al-Awda Hospital as saying that the victims included a woman and three children.

Surrounding buildings were also severely damaged by the attack.

Quds News Network said Palestinian footballer Mohamed Khalifa was among those killed.

On Monday night, one Palestinian was killed and many wounded by an Israeli air strike on the home of the Meqdad family in Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, north of Gaza City.

Nearly two dozen people were killed on Monday evening in an attack on a building sheltering displaced people in northern Gaza.

Reporting for the Al Jazeera network, Hani Mahmoud said: “Twenty people from one displaced family from Beit Lahiya and Jabalia, who were making their way to Beit Hanoon city, were killed.”

“That includes men, women, children, as well as elderly Palestinians.”

Social media footage showed residents collecting the bodies and lining them up on the street today.

Israeli forces are also reported to have detained six Palestinian fishermen in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah who attempted to sail into the Mediterranean Sea to catch food.

Speaking at a news conference in Jerusalem on Monday Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had no intention of stopping the war in Gaza “now,” despite optimistic reports that ceasefire talks were about to resume.

Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir told the Maariv newspaper that he wanted to present to incoming US president Donald Trump with “a programme to encourage the migration of Palestinians from and settlements of Israelis in Gaza.”

He claimed it would be the “moral” and “logical” choice for Mr Trump to join the “endeavour.”

Mr Gvir said: “It will also be good for the residents of Gaza who emigrate, voluntarily of course,” saying that “it will also do us good.”

He said that Israel has always defeated its enemies “when we have taken territory from them. When we liberated — they call it ‘occupied’ I say liberated — the territory, that’s always been the thing that punishes them most.”

Meanwhile, representatives from a five-member committee tasked with enforcing a ceasefire that stopped the war between Hezbollah and Israel on Monday held their first meeting in Naqoura, southern Lebanon.

The group, including representatives of the US, France and the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, made no comment on accusations that Israel has violated the ceasefire with heavy air attacks.
