ARSENAL head coach Renee Slegers has every confidence her players will soon find their scoring touch again to kick-start their Women’s Super League campaign.

The Gunners were held to a frustrating goalless draw by promoted Crystal Palace last weekend, during which they struck the crossbar twice, but were not able to convert their chances as Eagles keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin made a string of fine saves against her old club.

Arsenal are back at Ashburton Grove on Saturday for a 5.30pm kick-off against Manchester United and Slegers is determined to focus on the positives of what she knows her side can do going forwards.

“What is really important for us is we know we can finish, score goals,” Slegers said at a press conference.

“We know we have a lot of goalscorers in the squad with a lot of quality, so it is really important the players know that and they feel our trust with that, of course.

“It is also about the tactical plan, tweaking small things, and hopefully that makes it easier to create more clear-cut chances.”

Arsenal have the chance to set a new club record on Saturday by going 20 matches undefeated in the Women’s Super League.

“It is very positive that we are hard to beat and that is what we feel about ourselves, but also with some recent bias as well of the last game against Crystal Palace where we weren’t able to score that goal, and didn’t get the win,” said Slegers, who confirmed Elisa de Almeida is out with an injury picked up during the week.

“It is double — of course we are proud, but at the same time there are some draws in there.”

Manchester United boss Eva Olid is expecting a response from their 5-0 trashing by Chelsea last weekend.

“My main message is about being themselves,” she said at a press conference. “I am not sure they are showing in the first two matches who they are and what they can do.

“For me it is so important that they show that to perform. We had a day to reflect and analyse the game, to see what we can do better and we know what we have to do.”

London City Lionesses, beaten by West Ham last weekend, are at Charlton while Chelsea host Birmingham.

Sunday’s action sees Brighton take on Aston Villa, Tottenham at Palace and West Ham are at home against Everton.
