HORSE RACING: Rossa Ryan had his 28-day ban reduced to 10 after Tuesday’s appeal to the British Horseracing Authority. Ryan was charged with failing to ride out Thunder Home at Sandown Park a fortnight ago, when the two-year-old was beaten into second by a nose. The County Galway-born jockey, who rode 2024’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Bluestocking, will now be able to take part in this month’s York Ebor meeting.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: The English League Cup’s long weekend of first-round matches kicks off tonight with 2018’s semi-finalists Bristol City up against Walsall. Two-time winners Wolves enter the fray tomorrow evening when they take on Port Vale, while Wycombe Wanderers play Stevenage and 2004’s champions Middlesbrough face Wrexham. The Devon derby between Plymouth and Exeter rounds things off on Monday night.

BASEBALL: Los Angeles Angels remain bottom of Major League Baseball after going down 3-1 at Baltimore Orioles early this morning. City neighbours, the LA Dodgers, lost their joint top spot following a fifth successive defeat, 5-1 at the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee Brewers now lead the league by a game following their 4-2 victory at Pittsburgh, while form-team Atlanta beat Miami 4-2 to remain third.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: St Helens look to end their poor run of Super League form when they host second-bottom Hull FC at Langtree Park this evening. Saints currently sit outside the play-off places in seventh after losing four of their last five games. Hull are on a seven-match run without a win. It’s first against second tomorrow night when table-topping Leeds visit Wakefield Trinity while third-placed Wigan meet Toulouse on Saturday.
