BELGIUM: Firefighters battled a massive wildfire in eastern Belgium today that has burned more than 10 square miles in the High Fens, a large nature reserve, and forced nearby residents to evacuate in what media describe as one of the worst-ever wildfires in the country’s history.

About 600 residents in nearby municipalities in Waimes and Butgenbach, in Liege province, were told to evacuate on Saturday. 

HUNGARY: A passenger bus today went off a highway and into a ditch where it overturned, killing 12 and injuring others, police said.

The bus, which was carrying a group of Polish tourists, was travelling on eastbound lanes near the town of Mezokeresztes when it overturned on the M3 motorway around 87 miles east of Hungary’s capital, Budapest.

In a statement, police said the driver had been taken into custody.

UKRAINE: Ukraine launched hundreds of drones across Russia today, killing at least six people in one of Kiev’s largest aerial attacks of the war.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said that it had destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones overnight. Some 600 drones targeted the Russian capital, Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said, with a third destroyed over the Moscow region.

CUBA: Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez has thanked China for the latest shipment of tons of rice. The shipment is part of a commitment by China to provide 60,000 tons of grain to mitigate the illegal US blockade of the Caribbean island.

China’s ambassador to Cuba Hua Xin said the shipment comes with the message that “China stands with Cuba.”
