NORTH Somerset faces bin chaos after more than 100 GMB members voted for strike action.
An overwhelming 95 per cent voted to walk out over a deal by North Somerset Environment Company (NSEC) which would leave them paid up to £4 per hour less than other refuse collectors in the region, said the union.
GMB regional organiser Lorraine Gaskell said: “They’re not asking for the earth — they’re asking to be paid fairly for the work they do and in line with what others in the neighbouring councils already earn for the same job.
“Instead, they’ve been handed another rubbish rise that leaves them at the back of the queue.
“But the last thing they want to do is go on strike and GMB remains open to further talks aimed at securing a meaningful increase to the offer.”
NSEC, which is wholly owned by North Somerset Council, was contacted for comment.
